Sometimes we’re so busy fixated on the end goal that we miss the journey. I’m not saying anything new here. You’ve probably, most likely, heard this concept said in different ways.
How about this way?
Let’s say you’re ordering food at a $$$$ restaurant. You’re seated at a nice table with your best friend scoping the menu. You’ve made your selection and placed your order with the server, who then disappears into the kitchen afterwards.
You and your best friend and have no idea when the meal is going to make it to your table. And rarely do you (I hope) prance into the kitchen, snap your fingers and say, “Hey Chef Clemency! Where’s my food!? I’ve been waiting forever!” That wouldn’t make for a pleasant dining experience. You’re stressed out and you’ve just introduced tension to the kitchen staff.
What if the manifestation of our desires were no different? When we’re not mindful, we can easily get caught up in timelines. So let’s do our best to stay out of the kitchen! Trust that the Divine Chef CoCo (my name for Cosmic Consciousness) is cooking up a fine meal and when we least expect it, the culinary delicacy will come to our table at the right time. Were it to come sooner, it might be a fast food type dish: Does the job, but not the most pleasing to our palate and definitely not as nutritious for our bodies.
Why not think of the whole why-ain’t-it-here-yet deal like this: Chef CoCo must be adding in some rare seasoning. She must be doing the mega slow roast to preserve all the juices and make the dish ever so succulent.
What’s our job in the meantime? While seated at the restaurant, I tend not to notice how long it’s taking for the dish to arrive if I’m fully engaged with my company. If I’m dining alone, I tend not to care how long it’s taking if I’m absolutely engrossed in the book I’m reading. If I’m utterly amused by the people-watching I’m doing. How fully engaged in the moment can I be?
Just some food for thought as you start the week.
